From 1978 onward, Yellow Magic Orchestra has at once been Japanese music’s answer to the Beatles, DEVO, Kraftwerk, and Talking Heads. YMO frontman Haruomi Hosono has had a prolific career spanning over 50 years, and his record label (co-founded with bandmate Yukihiro Takahashi) produced some amazing left-field gems, namely in the 80s and early 90s.
